Sanctuary Governor To Give Illegals Free College Tuition On Citizens’ Dime

The liberal obsession with giving away taxpayers’ money knows no discernible limit.

Politicians do this because it works. Handing out money is an excellent tool to use to remind voters for whom they should cast their ballots at the next election. Even if these recipients of government funds are not eligible to vote – yet.

And let’s face it: governments always have money available to buy votes. We see this extensively at the federal level, but states are active participants as well.

In fact, Governor Cuomo of New York is eager to get to the front of the line when it comes to courting the “Dreamers.” His plan? Give all illegal immigrants the same access to a free college education as regular citizens. And leave those regular citizens to pay the bill.

“New York Governor Andrew Cuomo recently revealed his FY 2019 budget proposal, which would extend the state’s free tuition program to illegal immigrant students.

“According to a briefing book, Cuomo’s plan ‘includes legislation to implement the DREAM Act, opening the doors of higher education to thousands of New Yorkers.’”

“‘The DREAM Act will give undocumented students access to the new Excelsior Scholarship, the Tuition Assistance Program, as well as other state-administered scholarship,’ it [Cuomo’s FY ‘19 budget briefing] states, declaring that ‘an investment in young immigrants’ futures is an investment in New York’s future.’”

And the taxpayers’ investment insisted by Gov. Cuomo is to ensure the future of the Democratic Party in New York. If offering rewards to those who are in this country illegally promotes his party’s future, so be it.

This sort of thing illustrates why liberals abhor even the idea of tax cuts. Cutting taxes means letting taxpayers keep more of their money. It also tends to foreclose on vote-buying programs such as this one.

Liberals are not dumb. They know that they must spend ever greater sums to placate the groups that have become dependent on, or benefit from, transfers of wealth.

Whomever said, “The government that robs Peter to pay Paul, can always depend on Paul’s vote,” got it right.
